Country-Specific Insights
The conference featured in-depth presentations from various countries, offering a wealth of insights:
Sweden: Linnéa Engström discussed the significant carbon footprint of Scandinavia and explored the potential for circular economy strategies in sectors such as steel, mining, and forestry. However, she pointed out that new extraction activities, including rare earth minerals in Sweden and ocean floor mining in Norway, pose challenges to progress.
Australia: Mansi Zaveri provided an overview of Australia’s mining and resource-based economy, focusing on waste and pollution avoidance. She highlighted the nation’s environmental impact and its circular economy initiatives, such as the National Waste Policy, National Circular Economy Roadmap, EPA laws, and ESG regulation.
Côte d'Ivoire: Ingrid Epezagne centered her presentation on Côte d'Ivoire’s agriculture-based economy, emphasizing the opportunities for circular economy initiatives, particularly in sustainable forest and agricultural management.
Mexico: Maria Laura Rojas detailed Mexico’s approach to various types of circular economy practices, including recycling, eco-design, renewable energies, and circular construction. She underscored the importance of a comprehensive working diagnosis and gender gap analysis to address current challenges effectively.
Breakout Sessions and Collaborative Insights
The conference also featured breakout sessions, where experts from different countries shared their perspectives. Moderated by Sandra Guevara Q. PhD (Spain), these sessions included insights from Maria Jose Rubio de Hart (Colombia), Sanchita Gairola Mishra (India), and Ingrid Epezagne (Côte d'Ivoire). Discussions ranged from misconceptions about circularity to the importance of practical applications, policy implementation challenges, gender equity, education, and community engagement.
