Some journeys are not defined by where they begin but by the courage that carries them forward. The story of Tanurupa Purkayastha is one such journey—one that began in modest surroundings in Guwahati and grew into a powerful mission of leadership, empowerment, and social change.
Humble Beginnings in Guwahati
In a small one-room home in Guwahati, a young girl grew up believing that dreams were not defined by space, money, or privilege. They were defined by courage.
Her father, a humble priest, planted the earliest seeds of wisdom in her life. He taught her that dignity is not measured by where you live, but by how you serve others. Her mother became the silent architect of her confidence—ensuring that even within four small walls, her daughter’s dreams would never feel small.
That young girl would one day grow up to become a nationally recognized women’s leader — Tanurupa Purkayastha.
The Early Spark of Determination
Tanurupa’s journey began in a Bengali medium school, where opportunities were limited but her determination was limitless. One of her earliest moments of pride came when her father saw her name printed in Assam newspapers after she received NSS honors.
For a young girl from a modest background, that recognition was more than an achievement—it was a spark. A spark that ignited belief in what the future could hold.
Lessons From Hardship
The path forward was not easy.
At one stage in her life, Tanurupa spent twelve hours a day standing in a small shop, earning just ₹1500 a month. Many might have felt defeated by such circumstances, but for her, those long days became lessons in resilience.
They taught her discipline, patience, and the quiet strength of perseverance—the invisible force behind every success story.
Rising Through the Corporate World
From Guwahati to Bangalore, Kolkata, and Noida, Tanurupa stepped into the demanding world of corporate leadership—a space where women often have to prove themselves twice as much to be seen as equal.
But Tanurupa did more than survive that environment.
She chose to lead.
Through determination and consistent dedication, she rose to take significant leadership roles across multinational organizations. Among her notable responsibilities was serving as the Chairperson and Presiding Officer of the POSH Committee at Cadmaxx Solutions, where she worked toward ensuring safer and more respectful workplaces.
Alongside this role, she also spearheaded global business expansion initiatives and strategic projects, leaving a meaningful impact across the organizations she served.
National Recognition for Leadership
Her contributions did not go unnoticed.
Tanurupa Purkayastha was honored as:
Women Leader of Uttar Pradesh
Women Leader of the North by the World Women Leadership Congress
Women Icon Award 2026 by Women's World Records & Awards
Recognized among the prestigious Top 150 Goldiee Queens
These honors celebrated not only her professional excellence but also her influence as a leader shaping positive change.
Yet, for Tanurupa, the most meaningful recognition does not come from award ceremonies.
The Recognition That Matters Most
The moments that truly touch her heart happen when she returns home.
On the streets of her hometown, mothers point toward her and tell their daughters:
“Become like her.”
For Tanurupa, that single sentence carries more value than any title or trophy. It represents hope, aspiration, and the power of representation for the next generation of girls.
Turning Experience Into a Mission
Today, Tanurupa Purkayastha has transformed her personal journey into a larger mission.
As a POSH, POCSO, and DEI Consultant and Co-Founder of Make My Life Count, she works passionately to build safer workplaces and more inclusive environments for women and children.
Her work focuses on awareness, policy implementation, and advocacy that ensures dignity, protection, and equal opportunity for everyone.
The struggles she once faced have now become the foundation of her purpose—to make sure others do not have to fight the same battles alone.
A Story That Inspires Many
Tanurupa’s story reminds us that leadership is not only built in boardrooms or defined by titles.
Sometimes leadership begins in a small one-room home, grows stronger through hardship, and blossoms into a purpose that uplifts countless others.
Her journey perfectly reflects the spirit of the She Business Time “Every Woman Matters” campaign, which celebrates women whose stories inspire change and empower communities.
Because when one woman rises, she does not rise alone.
She lights the path for many more.
A Powerful Message for International Women’s Day
Tanurupa Purkayastha shares a powerful perspective on the meaning of International Women’s Day:
“International Women’s Day shouldn’t be a one-day gift of appreciation, but a daily commitment to the safety and dignity every woman deserves. When we move beyond performative praise and protect the right of women to be heard and feel secure, we stop merely marking a date and finally begin making every life count.”
Her story stands as a reminder that every woman’s journey has the power to inspire, transform, and lead change.
And truly—Every Woman Matters.
