From the First Batch of Lady Officers in the Indian Army to a Global Education Leader
Some journeys are not merely about success—they are about courage, conviction, and rewriting history. Captain Dr. Dinisha Bhardwaj Singh’s story is one such journey, where the spirit of a soldier meets the vision of an educationist to shape the leaders of tomorrow.
A proud officer from the first batch of Lady Officers inducted into the Indian Army, Captain Dr. Dinisha Bhardwaj Singh spent a decade in uniform serving the nation with distinction. At a time when women were just beginning to enter the armed forces, she stepped into a world filled with uncertainty, expectations, and immense responsibility. The message was clear and unforgettable:
“You are the first. If you succeed, it will become normal. But if you fail, generations will remember it as the failure of women officers.”
Instead of being intimidated, she transformed this pressure into purpose. With resilience and grace, she broke glass ceilings and created new benchmarks for women in the military.
During her illustrious army tenure, she achieved several historic firsts. She became the first Lady Officer to be posted at the prestigious Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehradun, a milestone that symbolized the growing recognition of women’s leadership in the armed forces. Her adventurous spirit and determination led her to become the first woman trained as a paragliding expert, and she also participated in challenging expeditions such as a 70-kilometre white water rafting expedition on the Ganga alongside British officers and cadets of IMA and the Sandhurst Academy of England ,UK
Her pioneering achievements continued as she became the first Lady Officer to be deployed in the forward areas of Poonch, worked on Pakistan border during her field attachment . camel safari expeditions in Rajasthan, and trained in rock climbing and mountaineering in Chakrata. Each achievement was not just a personal milestone but a statement of possibility for countless women who would follow.
Captain Dr. Singh’s decade in the Army was marked by operational excellence and leadership during critical missions including Operation Rakshak in Kashmir, Operation Vijay in Kashmir, and Operation Parakram while in Ferozepur Punjab. During one of her most challenging assignments in Jammu and Kashmir in 1999, she led the complete rear garrison security in remote regions, demonstrating courage, discipline, and exceptional leadership.
Yet her journey of service did not end with the uniform.
Guided by an unwavering commitment to nation-building, she pursued higher education and completed her PhD from NEHU, Shillong, transitioning into the field of education. This transformation created what she calls a “deadly combination” — a Fauji’s discipline blended with an educationist’s vision.
Today, Captain Dr. Dinisha Bhardwaj Singh serves as an Educational Administrator and Social Entrepreneur leading and shaping young minds through institutions such as RKG Global Schools in Ghaziabad. as Director Principal .Her mission is not merely academic excellence but the creation of ethical, courageous, and globally responsible citizens.
Over the years, she has led and nurtured educational institutions serving students from more than 25 nationalities and multiple global academic boards, reflecting her belief that education must transcend borders and cultures.
Beyond institutional leadership, she has dedicated herself to empowering people through knowledge and inspiration. A Global Leadership Trainer, Motivational Speaker, and two-time TEDx speaker, An Ex Casual announcer at All India Radio Shillong and a social worker ,Captain Dr. Singh continues to inspire individuals across the world with her story of perseverance and purpose. Her contributions have been recognized with over 27 awards and accolades from various civilian organizations, in addition to the six honors she received during her army service.
Despite her achievements, she humbly describes herself not as a businesswoman but as a social entrepreneur. In her words, she contributes to the Knowledge (K) and Power (P) economy of the nation, nurturing values that build stronger societies and responsible leadership.
Her philosophy of leadership is deeply rooted in empathy and strength. One of the greatest lessons she shares from her journey is Be simple yet powerful:.Be The Best .
“Have the biggest of hearts and the widest of minds—to receive, to churn, and to transform learning into meaningful action.”
To aspiring women entrepreneurs and leaders, her message carries both warmth and determination:
Women are naturally gifted leaders and managers. When they embrace their strength with maturity and openness, they can analyze challenges, launch solutions, and move forward fearlessly.
Today, Captain Dr. Dinisha Bhardwaj Singh continues her mission like a true soldier—this time on the academic, administrative, ethical, and moral frontlines, ensuring that future generations grow into confident global leaders.
Her story reminds us that leadership is not confined to battlefields or boardrooms—it lives in classrooms, communities, and the hearts of those who dare to serve a larger purpose.
As she beautifully says:
“Awaken the soldier within you to win the battles of life.”
And that is precisely what the Every Woman Matters campaign by She Business Time celebrates—women who rise, lead, and inspire the world.
