Sometimes destiny chooses a path for us long before we even recognize it.
For Dr. Pattathil Dhanya Menon, becoming one of India’s pioneering cyber crime investigators was never part of the plan. In fact, it was a profession she had never even imagined for herself.
Yet today, she stands as the Founder of Avanzo Cyber Security Solutions Pvt Ltd and AVZ Cyber Security Solutions LLC, working from Thrissur, Kerala and Dubai, and inspiring countless women to believe that unexpected journeys can lead to extraordinary impact.
Her story perfectly reflects the spirit of She Business Time’s International Women’s Day campaign – “Every Woman Matters.”
A Turning Point That Changed Everything
The year was 2003.
Cyber crime was still a new and unfamiliar concept for most people in India. It was during this time that Dhanya’s life took a surprising turn.
Her grandfather’s elder brother, Sri P. B. Menon, a respected senior advocate of the Supreme Court of India and author of the book “In Three Indias,” encouraged her to explore the subject of cyber crimes and cyber laws.
He saw something in her before she could see it herself.
That encouragement planted a seed that would eventually grow into a pioneering career.
“I never chose cyber crime investigation,” she reflects.“This profession chose me.”
From Failure to Reinvention
Dhanya began working at just 20 years old. Entrepreneurship was never her dream. Her first venture, a computer training center started in 1999, initially did well but later collapsed.
For many, failure can feel like the end.
For Dhanya, it became the beginning of transformation.
She spent seven years learning, experimenting, making mistakes, and understanding the emerging world of cyber security. Slowly, her confidence returned.
Finally, in 2010, she founded Avanzo, a cyber security organization that would go on to build a strong reputation in the industry.
Her journey is a reminder that sometimes setbacks are simply preparation for a larger purpose.
Fighting Odds in a Male-Dominated Industry
When Dhanya entered the field of cyber crime investigation, the ecosystem was not supportive.
Infrastructure was limited. Awareness about cyber crime was minimal. And being a woman in a highly technical and investigative field came with its own set of challenges.
She recalls that 99% of the early moments were adverse, with only a handful of friends and family standing beside her.
But resilience became her greatest strength.
Every satisfied client.Every solved case.Every recognition.
Each became a milestone that kept her moving forward.
Moments That Made the Journey Meaningful
While awards and recognition came along the way, the moments that touched her heart were deeply personal.
One such moment was when her grandfather proudly displayed a newspaper clipping that mentioned him as her grandfather.
Another was when her father received an award on her behalf at her son’s school.
And of course, one of the most memorable experiences was receiving a prestigious honor at Rashtrapati Bhavan, among 100 eminent women leaders, from the President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind.
These moments were not just achievements.
They were reminders that her journey was inspiring others beyond her own career.
National Recognition and Impact
Over the years, Dr. Pattathil Dhanya Menon has received numerous national and international recognitions, including:
First Women Achievers Award (2018) by the Ministry of Women & Child Development – for being India’s first woman cyber crime investigator
Featured in the Bharat Ki Lakshmi Campaign initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi

Nominee – Cyber Woman of the Year (2023)
Through her work, she continues to promote cyber awareness, cyber hygiene, and digital safety across communities.
Values That Guide Her Every Day
Despite her professional success, Dhanya remains grounded in the values that guide her life.
Her passion outside work is classical dance, a reminder that creativity and discipline go hand in hand.
Her core beliefs are simple yet powerful:
Give 100% commitment to whatever you do
Add value wherever possible
Stay relevant and adaptable
Never stop learning
These values have shaped both her personal life and professional journey.
Lessons from the Entrepreneurial Journey
Entrepreneurship, Dhanya believes, is never a straight road.
There will always be obstacles—team building challenges, financial pressures, and moments of doubt.
But resilience makes all the difference.
“Every setback is a setup for a comeback,” she says.
Her journey has taught her to be adaptable, self-aware, and fearless in the face of uncertainty.
A Message to Women Who Dream
For aspiring women entrepreneurs, Dhanya’s advice is heartfelt and honest.
Support may not always come easily. Criticism may come more often than encouragement.
But belief in oneself can transform everything.
“Trust your instincts, take calculated risks, and never hesitate to ask for help. Your unique perspective is your superpower.”
