Join us to learn how Dr. Beena Unnikrishnan is transforming lives and communities through her groundbreaking work.

1. What inspired you to pursue a leadership role?

Dr. Beena Unnikrishnan: My journey towards leadership has been personal, filled with self-discovery and growth. I've always sensed a spark of leadership within me, but it took time and courage to embrace it fully. Along the way, I've seized various opportunities to step forward, such as leading a team project or taking on a leadership role in a community organization. These experiences have gradually deepened my understanding of leadership's true essence and responsibilities. Today, it's not just a role I play but a passion that drives me to impact others' lives positively. Being a catalyst for progress is a calling that resonates deeply within me and with the world around me.

2.What inspired you to become an advocate for gender equality in your field?

Dr. Beena Unnikrishnan: I take immense pride in being a woman and relish every aspect of it. When I began working with other artists, I noticed the differences in how society values the actions of men and women. My spiritual journey has led me to a deeper understanding of femininity as a powerful and creative force. I needed to gain more profound knowledge in this area, and my journey has brought me here.

3.Can you share an experience where you faced gender bias and how you dealt with it?

Dr. Beena Unnikrishnan: I face challenges myself, but I stay confident, and my actions always reflect this confidence. Moving forward with confidence is the best approach.

4.As a leader, what steps have you taken to promote gender equality within your organization?

Dr. Beena Unnikrishnan: I strongly advocate for equal opportunities and an inclusive work culture. I always mentor others to help them overcome their fears and reach their full potential, spending quality time discussing their expectations.

5.What specific policies or initiatives has your organization implemented to support gender equality?

Dr. Beena Unnikrishnan: My organization is small, making ensuring everything is in order easier. I ensure I am accessible to my staff, and we have regular discussions. We also have an external professional to guide us. In addition, we have implemented policies that promote diversity and inclusion, such as blind hiring and flexible work arrangements, to ensure everyone feels valued and included.

6.How do you measure the success of gender equality initiatives in your workplace?

Dr. Beena Unnikrishnan: Pay equality, equal opportunities, gender fairness (ensuring that gender does not influence decisions or treatment), quality measurement (using objective criteria to evaluate performance), and regular feedback (providing constructive feedback to help individuals grow and improve).

7.What are some of the biggest challenges you have encountered while advocating for gender equality, and how have you overcome them?

Dr. Beena Unnikrishnan: I have yet to face significant challenges in this area. I aim to mould my employees to be confident in who they are.

8.How important is mentorship in advancing gender equality, and what role do you play in mentoring women in your industry?

Dr. Beena Unnikrishnan: Mentorship is crucial for advancing gender equality. Financial independence is also essential. I have curated programs for the economic independence of women artists and launched the CGPT Center for Gender Positive, advocating for the transgender community. This work has empowered others and has been a significant source of personal growth and fulfilment for me.

9. How do you believe achieving gender equality impacts overall business performance and workplace culture?

Dr. Beena Unnikrishnan: I believe that gender equality is not just a social or professional issue, but a spiritual pursuit. When we embrace and respect each other's unique qualities, regardless of gender, we create a harmonious and productive environment. This, in turn, leads to personal and organizational success, creating a holistic workspace where everyone can thrive.

10.What is your vision for the future of gender equality in your industry, and what steps do you think are necessary to achieve it?

Dr. Beena Unnikrishnan: Beyond industries, as individuals, we need to instil the importance of gender while growing up. This mindset will build more excellent organizations and a better world. I cannot overstate the power of collective efforts in community building, and I commit to fostering this spirit in all aspects of my work.

11.What advice would you give to young women who aspire to reach leadership positions in their careers?

Dr. Beena Unnikrishnan: I strongly believe in taking pride in being a woman. There is no glass ceiling; you can achieve anything. Embrace your femininity and be open to understanding that masculine power complements and completes you as a great woman.
